CAS/DAS of Advanced Studies: Ethics in Organisations: Education and Social Affairs

With the advanced training degree course Ethik in Organisationen: Bildung und Soziales (Ethics in Organisations: Education and Social Affairs), we address executive personnel in the education and social sector in order to qualify them for the competent handling of ethical questions in their professional fields of activity.
Executives in these sectors often face decision situations which raise specific ethical questions and problems: The way of dealing with persons in particular relationships of dependence, the distribution of limited resources, the shaping of institutional structures and a certain social responsibility confront decision makers with a variety of problems which necessitate ethically reflected assessment processes and a convincing explanation and justification of decisions.

The degree course shall enable participants to address ethical questions and problems by engaging with scientific ethics. With a practical orientation, it imparts concepts and theories developed in philosophical ethics in order to:

• analyse ethical problems and find answers for the issues in question,
• ethically reflect, explain and justify decisions, actions and attitudes,
• shape institutional structures and processes according to ethical, social, economic, legal and other aspects, and
• develop guidelines and principles for ethical behaviour in their organisation/institution.

In order to ensure an orientation of the degree course towards our target group and their specific demands, we attached great importance to topics of institutional and organisational ethics as well as to a high practical relevance of the course sequences and contents:

• The modules of the degree course are determined by the transferability and applicability of the imparted contents in the professional fields of activity.
• The scientific contents are imparted by analysing problem cases which derive from the concrete professional practice of our participants.
• Each teaching unit features a close interlocking of discussion-intensive, practise-oriented attendance phases and theory-based seminar units.

The didactic concept pursues a Blended Learning Approach: the degree course consists of approximately 30% attendance and 70% self-study supported by e-Learning with intensive supervision by the lecturers.

The course programme was developed in cooperation with organisations from the social and educational sector as well as the Tübinger Zentrum für Wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung (TZWW).
