Decentralized tracing apps: The only feasible way - and still no miracle cure

When German "data protection model country" politicians present themselves to the US corporations Google and Apple in order to promote the support of a centrally organized Covid19 tracing solution, this is at first astonishing. Last week, the discussion about the pros and cons of centralized or decentralized data storage for Covid19 tracing apps picked up considerable momentum: There were riots in the development consortia, open letters and the federal government made a double turn: ultimately towards a decentralized solution. Why we "just got lucky again" and why a centralized solution should not be used either in Germany or elsewhere will be explained in the following. But we cannot rest on our laurels when it comes to opting for a decentralized solution either, because it is neither a miracle cure nor unproblematic.
