Ethical and Legal Aspects of Drone Defense

Jessica Heesen, Susanne Schuster and Clemens Arzt in the new TATuP 3/18.

TATuP Edition 3/18, Topic: Drones in civil and military application

Unmanned and increasingly autonomous flight systems are conquering airspace. TATuP 3/2018 deals with the civil and military use of drones, possible paths of technology development, their actors and the need for a legal framework for current and future applications.

Today, drones are used in different areas. The development of autonomous weapon systems is of  high priority for more and more states. The UN and human rights organizations are already warning of potentially catastrophic consequences. However, drones also have great potential in the civilian sector. As means of transport, in agriculture or to transport small loads for the so-called "last mile" they are hotly debated.

Together with Clemens Arzt and Susanne Schuster, Jessica Heesen wrote an article with the topic "Ethical and legal evaluation of measures of police drone defence - protection of fundamental rights in state security action".
