Representatives of African Institute for Mathematical Sciences visiting Tübingen

On May 10, Audrey Namdiero-Walsh and Franca Hoffmann visited our Cluster of Excellence Machine Learning as representatives of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS). Their agenda included a meeting with the President of the University of Tübingen. Basis of this visit is the Data Science & AI Fellowship Program, which our Cluster of Excellence has recently launched together with AIMS.

The four-year Fellowship Program (2022-2025) gives AIMS master students the opportunity to apply for a fully funded six-month research visit with a research group at our Cluster and to start a project in Tübingen after completing their MSc. The first round with five fellows started in February 2022; first impressions are shared in our blog post.

Audrey Namdiero-Walsh is Director of European Operations at AIMS, Prof. Franca Hoffmann, is "Bonn Junior Fellow" at the Cluster of Excellence Hausdorff Center for Mathematics (HCM) and AIMS-Carnegie Research Chair in Data Science at AIMS Rwanda. During their visit to Tübingen, the two now learned about the numerous research activities in the field of machine learning at the University of Tübingen. Furthermore, the five current AIMS fellows presented their research projects they are working on during their stay in Tübingen. In a meeting with President Prof. Bernd Engler, possibilities for collaborations between the University of Tübingen and AIMS as well as a strengthening of the existing cooperation with our Cluster of Excellence Machine Learning were explored.
