Wiktionary Definitions

Since comprehensive sense definitions enhance the usability of GermaNet for a wide variety of NLP applications, sense definitions were added to GermaNet from the web-based dictionary Wiktionary. Wiktionary’s sense descriptions were automatically harvested from the February 2, 2011 Wiktionary data and mapped to corresponding lexical units in GermaNet. The ~29,550 automatic mappings have been manually verified and, in some cases, slight modifications to the Wiktionary sense descriptions have been made. Please note that license conditions for Wiktionary differ from license conditions for GermaNet.

The Wiktionary sense descriptions are subject to the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA).

The definitions from Wiktionary have been mapped to lexical units in GermaNet. This mapping is available for download here (for a description of the format of these files, please see XML Files):

• Download the mapping and harvested paraphrases (Release 18.0): This zip file contains all mapped adjectives, nouns, and verbs together with the harvested definitions for GermaNet release 18.0.
• Download the mapping and harvested paraphrases (Release 17.0): This zip file contains all mapped adjectives, nouns, and verbs together with the harvested definitions for GermaNet release 17.0.
• Download the mapping and harvested paraphrases (Release 16.0): This zip file contains all mapped adjectives, nouns, and verbs together with the harvested definitions for GermaNet release 16.0.
• Download the mapping and harvested paraphrases (Release 15.0): This zip file contains all mapped adjectives, nouns, and verbs together with the harvested definitions for GermaNet release 15.0.


• Download the Wiktionary dump (German version as of February 2, 2011) that was used for creating the mapping and harvesting the definitions.
