15.01.2026: "Populism and Federalism – Best Friends?"
The global rise of populist forces has long been a topic of concern in politics and academia. However, little attention has been paid to the interplay between populism and federalism. The ‘Yearbook of Federalism 2025’ therefore focuses on the question of whether federal structures provide a fertile environment for populist forces or whether they are particularly well suited to curbing them. A series of articles provides insights from various countries. With a political foreword by Minister President Daniel Günther.
On Thursday, 15 January 2026, the European Centre for Research on Federalism (ECRF), in cooperation with the Institute for Research on Far Right Extremism (IRex), will officially present the ‘Yearbook of Federalism 2025’ at the University of Tübingen. In this context, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Abels, Speaker of the ECRF Executive Board and Director of the Institute for Political Science (IfP), will discuss the topic ‘Populism and Federalism – Best Friends?’ with the following guests:
PD Dr. Rolf Frankenberger (Managing Director Research, IRex)
