Thursday, 23 January 2025, 16.00-17.30

Kupferbau (Hölderlinstr. 5), Lecture Hall 23

Amina A. Touzos (she/her) is a PhD researcher in the DFG-funded research group "CORE" (FOR 5404) at Johannes Gtenberg Universität Mainz. In 2024 she completed the doctoral research training group "DIAPASON". Her doctoral research focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to video game studies and the medical humanities.

Her talk on "Madness and Gothic Womanhood in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (2017)" combines approaches in Gothic studies, video game studies, and the medical humanities. Here, she speaks about the portrayal of the 'madwomen in the attic' trope in Hellblade and how it relates to a specific Gothic mode and portrayals of mental health/illness in video games more generally.
