Institute Board

The Institute for Research on Far Right Extremism (IRex) is led collaboratively by its professorial staff and management team. The Institute Board represents IRex externally and is responsible for the strategic direction and scholarly development of the institute. It oversees research, teaching, and knowledge transfer activities.

What sets IRex apart is its interdisciplinary approach to researching far-right phenomena, their interconnections, and the development of counter-strategies. This work is firmly anchored within the University of Tübingen. Together with colleagues from the four Research Units – Political Actors and Ideologies, Media and the Public Spheres, Political and Cultural Education, Social Science Research on Antisemitism) – the work of the IRex professors spans different disciplines, including political science, communication/media studies, education and antisemitism research. A fifth research unit, Attitudes and Elections, with a regional focus on Baden-Württemberg, is coordinated by the Managing Director of Research (Local Political Cultures).

The institute board is also responsible for developing a cross-disciplinary Far Right Research Platform. This platform will integrate event monitoring, social media monitoring, survey data and other research outputs from IRex. The findings from research units provide the foundation for university-level teaching and braoder knowledge dissemination. The management team is responsible for the operational coordination and organization of the institute.
