Excellence in the Department of Economics and Business Administration
Dr. Sebastian Gehricke and Prof. Frank Germann as Visiting Professors in Tübingen
This semester, we are welcoming two internationally renowned visiting professors to our department—a significant asset for research and teaching.
Dr. Sebastian Gehricke – Sustainable Finance & Climate Finance
Dr. Sebastian Gehricke comes from the University of Otago (New Zealand), a strategic partner in the Matariki Network. As a senior lecturer and director of the Climate and Energy Finance Group, he conducts research on climate finance, sustainable investments, greenwashing, sustainability reporting, and carbon markets—with publications in journals such as Energy Economics, Applied Economics, and the Journal of Empirical Finance.
In 2021, he developed New Zealand’s first sustainable investing course and has since been teaching at the master’s level on sustainable investing as well as climate and energy finance. Methodologically, he combines multivariate regression analyses, quasi-natural experiments (including modern LLM methods), and in-depth qualitative interviews. His goal: research that tangibly moves the global economy toward sustainability.
Prof. Frank Germann – World-Class Marketing Strategy
Prof. Frank Germann is a professor of marketing and department chair at the renowned University of Notre Dame (Mendoza College of Business) and is joining us as a visiting professor in the area of marketing strategy.
He publishes regularly in leading journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, and JAMS—with eight A+ publications since 2013. His awards include the AMA/MSI/H. Paul Root Award (2022), the Sheth Foundation / Journal of Marketing Award (2020), and the title of MSI Scholar (2022); his work has been featured in media outlets such as the Harvard Business Review, NPR, and The Atlantic.
Germann also has an extensive professional network: among other roles, he has served as European Quality Manager at Hewlett-Packard, Regional Sales Manager at Johnson & Johnson, Visiting Professor at HEC Paris, and Academic Advisor for McKinsey & Co. In his teaching, he covers the entire spectrum from BSc to PhD with excellent evaluations and brings a case-study-oriented, English-language teaching culture to our department.
