Because courses at the ISCL will be taught in both English and German, students are required to have a basic knowledge of both languages, as they will be required to follow lectures and read course material in these two languages. However, during the first semesters, it is possible to participate in the program without any previous knowledge of German. Foreign students will however be required to learn some German once they are here.
The International Language Program of the modern languages department of the University of Tübingen offers German language courses each semester, as well as courses in Regional Studies and Literature. Evening courses, summer courses and intensive courses throughout the year are also available.
These courses are offered on different levels, up to the preparation for the DSH Examination.
