Armelle’s work combines stable isotope analysis of water samples with the active monitoring of cave systems to investigate environmental processes.

After studying geology in Saint-Étienne (France) and Freiburg im Breisgau, she pursued a PhD at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) in Frankfurt am Main. Her doctoral research focused on reconstructing the Miocene surface uplift history of the European Alps within a paleoclimatic framework, using stable and clumped isotope methods. This work was carried out in collaboration with the University of Tübingen providing an isotope-enabled atmospheric general circulation model for data–model comparison.

Armelle is a geochemist and paleoclimatologist dedicated to the understanding of regional and global paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental dynamics. Her approach bridges modern and ancient systems, using observations of present-day environmental changes to inform reconstructions of past climate and environmental history.
