About

Marija Brdarić is a PhD candidate at the Senckenberg Centre for Human Evolution and Palaeoenvironment (SHEP) and a member of the Paleoanthropology Working Group at the University of Tübingen. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology and French Language and Literature from the University of Zagreb (Croatia) and a Master's degree in Archaeological Sciences and Human Evolution from the University of Tübingen (Germany), with specialization in paleoanthropology.

Her research focuses on the application of virtual and quantitative methods in paleoanthropology, with particular interest in the morphological variation, ontogeny, and evolution of the mandibular symphysis in Pleistocene hominins and the emergence of the chin and its implications for hominin taxonomy. In her Master's thesis, she investigated patterns of chin expression across fossil hominin groups using three-dimensional geometric morphometrics and surface registration.

She has gained extensive experience in virtual anthropology, including segmentation, virtual reconstruction, geometric morphometrics, and CT and µCT data processing. She has worked with fossil material from several sites, with a particular interest in Neanderthal remains from Vindija Cave, Croatia. In addition to laboratory-based research, she has participated in Paleolithic archaeological fieldwork in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Romania, and has contributed to organizing scientific conferences and academic events.
