Archäobotanik

Teaching

Archaeobotany at the University of Tübingen started in the 1970s, initiated by some engaged students at the Institute of Early Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology. The discipline was however officially established only in 2011, in the framework of the formation of the Institute for Archaeological Sciences and with the development of its MSc program.

As a result of the long period of research activities in excavation projects of the different archaeological institutes at Tübingen, there are close links to Near Eastern Archaeology and Early Prehistory. The three adjunct professors at our institute hold competences in special fields, such as anthracology, carpology, palynology, environmental archaeology and stable isotope analysis. Thus, our students benefit from a broad range of course topics and research activities.
