Alparslan joined the Tübingen Institute of Political Science in 2022.  He studied Political Science and International Relations at Bogazici University (BA). After completing Masters of Business Administration (MBA) he earned his PhD degree with an interdisciplinary dissertation focused on political communication, networked social movements and public diplomacy. He holds a New Media and Ethics Certificate from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, School of Media and Journalism.

He is an international journalist who published a Turkish-English edition of The New York Times in Turkey. As a blogger for The Huffington Post, he writes mainly about freedom of expression, human rights and foreign policy issues.

Scholarly he focuses on migration studies and social policy research. His fields of interest are political communication, populism, public diplomacy and social media. He is married with two children.
