LUO Yi founded the social enterprise, Laotu (老土) in 2016 at the University of Chicago. Laotu promotes sustainable development in rural areas and greener lifestyles in China’s cities, focusing on cultural and educational fields through which rural and urban environmentalism can be connected. She has worked on the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale 2018-2019, multiple national park projects, and commemorative events related to the tenth anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake.
Luo Yi holds an MA from the University of Chicago Social Sciences and BA in History and Environmental Analysis from Claremont McKenna College. She has been honoured as a UNEP Chinese Young Champion of the Earth in 2018, one of the Ten Outstanding Young People in Shenzhen 2018 and is a member of the 3rd Homeward Bound Program. She is also a documentary filmmaker and curator.
