Sustainability in thesis

Blog article by Prof. Dr. Konrad Ott (Kiel)

The period of the Covid pandemic was also a time of reflection on what reforms are overdue and should be in the near future. This may seem as if the virus is just a way of warming up a political soup. However, if the reasons that led to certain reform agendas before the pandemic are now proving to be valid a fortiori, the exceptional situation caused by Covid can be used as a legitimate opportunity to update an overdue agenda in the hope that it will now find a hearing and resonance. Those who have been working for a long time in the field of sustainable development, conservation theory and policy can work through much of what has been stored in drawers and shelves and propose it as an agenda. The following theses are not original. They are based on expert opinions of the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU), on the Vilmer Summer Academy co-organized by the Tübingen Ethics Center (IZEW) and on various research projects and seminars in Greifswald and Kiel between 2000 and 2018.
