Presentation of the KIM study at the founding of the “Inclusive Disaster Management Initiative”

Friedrich Gabel presented the results of the KIM study.

On Monday, 3 June, the “Inclusive Disaster Management Initiative” was founded in Stuttgart under the patronage of Thomas Strobl, Minister of the Interior, Digitalization and Communities. As part of the founding event, Friedrich Gabel presented the results of the KIM study.

The Baden-Württemberg state government's representative for the interests of people with disabilities, Simone Fischer, and the DRK Landesverband Baden-Württemberg have initiated the founding of the “Inclusive Disaster Management Initiative”. This initiative was founded in Stuttgart on Monday (3 June) under the patronage of Thomas Strobl, Minister of the Interior, Digitalization and Communities, together with 14 other partners. In addition to the parliamentary groups in the state parliament, these include the municipal state associations, the state fire brigade association, the THW state association, the LAG self-help group, the state senior citizens' council, the state student council, the LIGA der Freien Wohlfahrtspflege and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior. Other organizations and civil society associations have already confirmed their participation.

During the founding event, Friedrich Gabel presented the current results of the study “KIM – Disaster Management and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities” which the IZEW conducted from October 2023 till February 2024.

The initiative is unique in Germany. The objectives include:
• Raising awareness of the situation and needs of people with disabilities and other marginalized groups in inclusive disaster preparedness,
• Developing further concrete measures to improve preparedness and protection for these groups of people,
• Identifying and creating funding opportunities for inclusive civil protection,
• Promoting cooperation between all relevant stakeholders, such as authorities, institutions, aid organizations and people with disabilities,
• Attracting other stakeholders to the initiative.
