Thinking war from the perspective of peace

New blog article by Cora Bieß and Marcel Vondermaßen

With Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, questions around war, conflict and peace have taken on new significance.  This is also evident in the debates in Germany. But the debate often remains on the surface. Therefore, the seminar "Thinking about war from the perspective of peace" in the winter semester 2022/2023 aimed to take a more differentiated look at the topic with recourse to political science and philosophical texts: What forms of violence exist? What distinguishes war from "slow violence"? What is real peace? Can pacifism be immoral? What does it mean to think of war from the perspective of peace? The aim of the seminar was to introduce students to a set of tools that allow a clearer view of the complexities of war, conflict and peace.
