Interface between algorithms and scientists

Research Area C

We will develop techniques to allow scientists to understand and control all stages of the machine learning process in the scientific discovery pipeline.

To make the use of machine learning in the scientific process more successful, we need to develop new techniques that allow scientists from any discipline to judge, control and interact more easily with all the stages of the machine learning process. We will seek to develop interpretable machine learning algorithms and tools that help us to interact with them and study their inherent biases throughout the whole scientific discovery pipeline. This includes research on the following themes:

  1. Interpretable machine learning
  2. Interactive machine learning
  3. Biases in machine learning
