LEAD Graduation Celebration 2026

On June 25, 2026, the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network celebrated the doctoral degrees awarded over the past two years. About 80 guests gathered for the occasion in the ballroom of the “Neckawa” in Tübingen amid midsummer temperatures.

Finally PhinisheD!

The Graduation Celebration marks the fitting conclusion to an intensive and demanding phase of training. Approximately 20 graduates have successfully completed their doctoral studies at LEAD; 15 were able to attend in person and ceremonially receive their LEAD certificates from LEAD directors Ulrich Trautwein and Ulrike Cress.

More Than Just a Dissertation: The LEAD Training Program

Behind these successful completions lies a training program that goes beyond traditional disciplinary specialization. LEAD’s interdisciplinary and international network comprehensively prepares early-career researchers for the future of empirical educational research. In addition to providing excellent academic training, the program places special emphasis on

  • International and interdisciplinary collaboration: Looking beyond the boundaries of one’s own discipline.
  • Cooperation with educational practice: The direct transfer of research findings to schools and educational institutions.
  • Proficient research practice: The highest standards of quality and ethics as the foundation of one’s own work.
  • Science communication: The ability to convey complex research content to the public in an understandable and effective manner

A guest lecture by Dr. L. Rachel Gunn demonstrated what modern and dynamic science communication looks like in practice. The British ecologist was honored with the University of Tübingen’s Young Scientists’ Award for Science Communication for her outstanding work and provided guests with inspiring insights into her outreach efforts regarding coral reef ecosystems.

Amid midsummer temperatures, good food, moving personal remarks from fellow students during the award ceremony, and a quiz, the LEAD community celebrated well past midnight and didn’t let the heat stop them from wrapping up the evening on the dance floor.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all graduates, wish them every success in their future careers—whether in academia or the professional world—and hope to remain connected through LEAD!
