Participation in Two PhD Courses in Zurich

From 1 to 4 September, Nadja Gutermann attended the Leading House PhD course “Randomized Experiments in Economics of Education,” taught by Eric Bettinger (Stanford University). Drawing on examples from education research, participants explored the key elements of designing credible experiments, ranging from randomization and statistical power to the ethical and practical challenges of conducting experimental research in educational settings.

From 28 September to 2 October, Nadja Gutermann also participated in the Leading House PhD course “Apprenticeship Training: Institutions and Markets,” taught by Samuel Muehlemann (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich), Ursula Renold (ETH Zurich), and Paul Ryan (King’s College, Cambridge). The course examined key economic and institutional aspects of apprenticeship training, including training markets, regulation, returns on training, innovation, and the role of artificial intelligence.
