The this years GRK-Retreat took place from 26. - 28. Septemer 2012 at the guesthouse Iseler in Oberjoch.
"Bacterial survival strategies" - that was the topic for the three days and it was addressed with very different and interesting aspects.
Since the graduate students had the task to present an interesting subject concerning bacterial survival strategies, which was not related to their PhD-work, the program was very diversified and highlighted exciting questions of how bacteria survive under adverse conditions.
Supplemented was the program by the presentations by the PIs of the research training group held. They introduced the work programs and the history of their labs. Thereby an special emphasis was given to the methods, which are available in the particular group and which are on the graduate students disposal. From this an overview of methods was generated, and the students were invited to visit different labs to learn a special method which may be use it for their PhD-work.
The members of the research training group used the time not only for fruitful and exciting discussions, but also to get to know each other. They did some hiking and there was the opportunity to join each other in the evenings.
