Course information A1.2 – A2.2

for exchange / Erasmus students / English BA students

Advanced beginners: A1.2, A2.1, A2.2 classes for students with previous knowledge of German (at least 60h of German)

General information

  • The A1.2 - A2.2 classes are free of charge for exchange students.
  • One class lasts one semester.
    summer term 2026: April 13 - July 25, 2026
    winter term 2026/27: October 12, 2026 - February 6, 2027
  • You can take one class per semester.
  • It is not possible to take two classes on different levels at the same time. (e.g. A1.2/A2.1)
  • You can get 6 credits for each class. (requirements: no more than 3 absences, 2 tests)

How to register

Option 1
  • Is this the first German class you are taking in our department?
  • Did you not complete the course with credits last semester?
  • Would you like to skip a level?
  • Do you have a course certificate from another German institute?

You need to take a placement test.
 

Option 2
  • Did you participate in a German class with us last semester & finish the class with credits?
  • Do you want to take the next level?

You do not need to take a placement test. We have uploaded your level on Alma. 

Please go to Alma and register during our registration period between October 8 - October 14, 2026
You will know by Friday, October 16, 2026 if you have a place in the class. Please check your Alma status. 
Classes start from Monday, October 26, 2026. Your teacher will send you an email before the first class.

Placement test (only for option 1)

Test dates in the winter term 2026/27

  • Monday, October 12, 9.00-10.15 am
  • Tuesday, October 13, 9.00-10.15 am
  • Wednesday, October 14, 9.00-10.15 am

The test will be held online via zoom. It's easy: You don't have to register for the test. Just click on the red button "Placement test" 5 Minutes before the start. 

The test will start punctually, at 9.00 am!

  • In the zoom meeting, we will also explain, how and when you can register for classes.
  • After you have finished your test, you can see your test results on this website at 4pm.
  • Then please go to Alma and register for your class. 
  • You will know by Friday, October 16, if you have a place in the class.
  • Your Alma status will then be “admitted”.
  • Please note: Alma does not work on a first come first served basis. Places are distributed randomly via Alma, regardless of the registration date & time.
  • If you have a place in the class, your teacher will contact you with further information before the first class.
  • Classes start from Monday, October 26, 2026
  • Very important: Be sure to check your student.uni-tuebingen.de e-mail account on a daily basis. This address is tied to your Alma account and we send all course-related info to this address.
