Project leaders: The International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) is part of the project "Scientific Education and Social Responsibility", which will be carried out at the University of Tübingen from October 2016 to March 2019. The funding is provided by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg (MWK).

The focus of the overall project is the piloting and implementation of the activating research-related teaching and study format Service Learning: In dialogue with actors of civil society, students develop projects that address socially relevant issues in a demand-oriented manner and with scientific support. They combine the deepening and application of subject content with the assumption of social responsibility.

The IZEW assumes a cross-sectional function by linking research-related service learning with transdisciplinary sustainability research, for example in cooperation with the "Tübingen Energy Laboratory". The teaching formats conceived and implemented by the IZEW are based on the model of sustainable development. The aim is to integrate and apply transdisciplinary sustainability research, education for sustainable development (ESD) and research-related service learning.
