Ethical and societal aspects of autonomous robotics (EGAR)

The EGAR project accompanies seven technology development projects funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, in which a wide variety of robots are being developed (. Using the examples of concrete development projects, we examine the ethical and social implications of autonomous robotics. During the process, impulses, workshops and mitigation strategies are developed and an active dialogue with the public is sought.

Profile of the Autonomous Robotics Research Programme

Description of the project

The accompanying project, funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, has three goals:

1) Analyses: Parallel to the values of Autonomy & Responsibility, Privacy & Informed Consent, and Transparency & Fairness, individual project implications need to be analyzed and understood ethically.

2) Integration: We provide in-process impetus to technology development projects to incorporate ethical aspects in the development of autonomous robots and act as embedded ethicists in the projects.

3) Science communication: We make and research science communication about ethical aspects of autonomous robotics, among others in cooperation with technology museums.
