CIRP LinkedIn Usage Concept
The public relations work for the Centre for International Relations/Peace and Conflict Research (CIRP) also takes place on LinkedIn. With this usage concept, the CIRP assumes its responsibility and role model function as a public body for the use of social media in accordance with the "Guidelines of the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (LfDI) on the use of social networks by public bodies". Please also note our data protection declaration and assessment of the consequences of LinkedIn use.
1. General information about LinkedIn
LinkedIn, based in Mountain View/USA, is a social career network for maintaining existing business contacts and for establishing and linking new business connections. With over 350 million users, LinkedIn is currently the largest online professional network in the world. It is international and particularly widespread in English-speaking countries. This gives LinkedIn a large international reach compared to other career networks, such as XING, which is mainly used in German-speaking countries. There is a free basic version, and premium services with additional functions can be booked for a fee.
LinkedIn is primarily aimed at managers and specialists as well as those generally interested in careers. The network enables its users to communicate and exchange information directly with people who have the same professional interests. The network is also used for recruiting staff; users present themselves as qualified employees, and companies and organizations as attractive employers. Although LinkedIn's focus is typically on the professional field, many users also use the network to link private contacts.
You can create personal profiles or company pages on LinkedIn, although company pages can only be set up via a personal profile with administrator rights; there is no real name policy. In order to use the network functions, you must be registered as a user. Some content shared by the LinkedIn user can also be read without the need for you to register.
Posts in the form of text, photos, videos and live streams can be made available on LinkedIn. Registered users can use this service to publish their content free of charge, connect with other users or company pages, comment on their posts, mark them with "like" or "unlike" and share them. Users can recommend or subscribe to company pages so that relevant posts are displayed in their own LinkedIn feed.

2. Purpose of the CIRP's use of LinkedIn
The CIRP's LinkedIn page is a useful addition to existing communication channels such as the website, publications and events.
Social career networks are becoming increasingly important for success on the international job market. Especially with regard to our target groups, in this case primarily graduates (alumnae and alumni) and their (potential) employers, those interested in further training, our own internationally operating and potential new employees, LinkedIn offers the advantage that we can reach them much more directly and quickly. Interested LinkedIn users can simply subscribe to the company page and will be notified of new posts. The CIRP's LinkedIn presence thus enables a wide distribution of contributions and impressions from the work of the CIRP as well as an observation of the immediate reactions that follow.
LinkedIn can facilitate the CIRP's communication, as the target groups can contact the Centre with questions, suggestions or criticism in a low-threshold and uncomplicated manner. LinkedIn thus enables quick and uncomplicated communication on an equal footing and can thus convey an overall informative and inviting image of the Centre with its offers, qualities and goals.
With the help of the CIRP's LinkedIn page, the LinkedIn public can be given insights into the research of the CIRP. It also supports the activities of the internationally networked and active employees within the framework of their individual networks with, for example, international project partners.
3. Type and extent of use of LinkedIn by the CIRP
The CIRP's LinkedIn page informs users about news, events and publications of the Centre.
