Black holes as a gateway to new physics beyond General Relativity

Astrid Eichhorn, University of Heidelberg, Germany — November 4, 2024

Abstract: Black holes are one of the most stunning predictions of General Relativity, but at the same time, they are the clearest signature that General Relativity is not a complete description of gravitational physics. In this talk, I will ask the question, where and how we should expect General Relativity to break down and discuss two distinct possibilities. In particular, I will discuss how observations of black-hole images may harbor imprints of new physics beyond General Relativity.
