Focus of the Collection

The historic stock of the Prints and Drawings Collection encompasses mainly European print graphics from the 16th to 18th century. With the bequest of Baron Otto von Breitschwert (1910) art from the 19th century was added to the collection.
The graphic art of the 20th century consists until today of the following themes: self portaits by the artists, the topic “Old art in new art” – meaning pieces of art that paraphrase or quote from topics and motifs from art history – as well as documentation around the technique of print graphics. Additionally, you can find pieces of art that focus especially on the image-text relationship. There are also examples of the tradition of University art teachers at the University of Tübingen.
