Museum

For years, museums with their collections and exhibitions have been a focus of research at the Ludwig Uhland Institute (LUI) and an important field for research-based learning for our students. In particular, in the course of study projects, students and instructors have for decades had great success in creating museums and presenting exhibitions on topics in Cultural Studies. The Institute’s own Archives of Everyday Culture provides an important body of material for those purposes. Since the 1970s, the integration of museum theory and practice has been a distinguishing feature of the training offered at the Institute. In the meantime, this approach constitutes the core of the interdisciplinary master’s degree profile “Museum und Sammlungen / Museums and Collections,” which was developed in cooperation with the university’s museum. Numerous projects funded by third parties in the areas of museums and museum objects are an integral part of the work of the Institute at the moment.
