Institute of Historical and Cultural Anthropology

Research

The Ludwig Uhland Institute for Historical and Cultural Anthropology (LUI) is an exceptionally strong research institution and joins the cultural anthropological perspective to numerous international and interdisciplinary research and cooperation projects. The topic diversity of the institute is reflected in the third party funded projects, as well as in PhD projects and the Language Unit ("Arbeitsstelle Sprache"). The Archive of Everyday Cultures and the Digital Anthropology Lab are additional research facilities. Information on the research activities and publications at the Ludwig Uhland Institute are summarised on the pages under research.

Projects

The Ludwig Uhland Institute for Historical and Cultural Anthropology (LUI) is home to various international and interdisciplinary third-party funded projects and contributes regularly to big collaborative research centres (CRC) of the University of Tübingen. Various smaller projects keep up a continous exchange with society and regional cooperation partners. On our project pages we have compiled an overview of the LUI's project-related activities.

Digital Anthropology Lab

The Digital Anthropology Lab at the University of Tübingen is a research lab devoted to the ethnography of everyday digital cultures and investigates how people live with digital technologies and how those technologies shape their lives in return. The Lab serves as an interdisciplinary hub connecting digital anthropologists from Germany and Europe, creating synergies between different fields of research, and advancing digital anthropology as a whole. All information can be found on the pages of the Digital Anthropology Lab

PhD Studies

A considerable part of the research work done at the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Historical and Cultural Anthropology stems from its doctorates. The LUI offers various possibilities for PhD studies: you can do a PhD directly at the institute, in a project, part-time or with a scholarship. All information on enrolment, the institute's PhD group, current and completed dissertations and much more can be found on the pages PhD Studies.

Publications

The staff of the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Historical and Cultural Anthropology (LUI) publish their research findings in a variety of formats and publishing houses, including the in-house publications of the TVEKW (Tübinger Vereinigung für Empirische Kulturwissenschaft).
