NextGen PhD Mentoring

Get support as a PreDoc on your way to a Ph.D.

The path to a PhD is exciting but also raises questions. This is exactly where NextGen PhD Mentoring comes in. The program supports master’s students and (prospective) teachers who are considering pursuing a PhD in the fields of teacher education, school, and teaching research. Experienced doctoral candidates provide guidance to predocs through a mentorship program and support them during the transition and initial phase of their doctorate. The mentoring is interdisciplinary and can be structured with flexible scheduling to meet the needs of both target groups. The program is also specifically aimed at first-generation academics, i.e., those who are the first in their family to pursue a university degree.

For those interested in pursuing a doctorate – Become a mentee

Please contact us if you are a pre-doctoral student in an advanced teacher education program or currently working in a school setting and are interested in pursuing a doctorate in the fields of teacher education, school, and teaching research, as well as in the related responsibilities in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer.
We will be pleased to connect you with qualified doctoral candidates who, as peer mentors, will provide you with interdisciplinary and flexible support regarding your questions about pursuing a doctorate.
Upon completion of the mentorship, you will receive a certificate of participation in the NextGen PhD Mentoring program.

For PhD students – Become a mentor

As a Doc in the TüNaProDoc early-career development program, you will support pre-docs with questions about their doctorates, develop mentoring skills, and complete your qualification with a certificate.
To serve as a mentor, you must complete a qualification program, which can be acquired through courses offered by the Center for University Didactics (HDZ) Baden-Württemberg, programs offered by University Didactics (HD) Tübingen, programs offered by the Graduate Academy, and, in some cases, through personal coaching sessions with experts. Relevant prior experience may be taken into account during the qualification process.
Would you like to become a mentor through our NextGen PhD Mentoring program? Then please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to match you with pre-docs as a mentor.

Procedure

Expressions of interest in participating in the early-career programme are welcome at any time. Acceptance into a doctoral position is not a prerequisite for participating in the programme. There is no formal application process in the strict sense. Instead, all individuals interested in participating in the mentoring program are added to a continuously updated list of interested parties. As part of the mentoring relationship, mentees and mentors enter into an objective agreement at the beginning, which serves as a structuring framework and outlines key goals, topics, and individual concerns related to the mentoring process.
