Tübingen School of Education (TüSE)

Doctoral student representation at the TÜSE

The two doctoral representatives advocate for the concerns and interests of doctoral researchers at the TüSE who, through their work at the respective faculties, are involved in topics around teacher education, schools and teaching. In this role, they participate in the meetings of the School Board, the central body of the TüSE, and represent the concerns of doctoral researchers to the TüSE executive board and management. In addition, they actively influence the design of the TüSE's TüNaProDoc programme for early career researchers and the programme of the annual doctoral convention.

To ensure the best possible dialogue between the TüSE and the doctoral students, the two doctoral representatives are in constant communication with their peer group. To this end, but also to support the networking of doctoral students across the various faculties in the best possible way, the two representatives regularly organise informal get-togethers.

The doctoral student representatives are elected by their status group, which annually appoints two people from their ranks to represent their interests at the TüSE. The work performed is honoured with a certificate at the end of each term of office.

Current doctoral student representation in the School Board

Salwa Achahboun (principal representative) and Sinika Lott (representative) were elected to the office for the current term of office (August 2026 - July 2027).

Salwa Achahboun

My name is Salwa Achahboun; I am a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Institute of Education in the Department of School Pedagogy. In my doctoral research, I examine the classroom as a space for social experience and order. My research focuses on how everyday classroom interactions give rise to feelings of belonging, distinctions, and relationships of recognition. I am particularly interested in how differences based on ethnicity, gender, and social background are made practically relevant. In doing so, I focus especially on the pupil’s perspectives.
Before beginning my doctoral studies, I studied to become a high school teacher in Tübingen, studying German, Political Science, Biology (Bachelor’s), and Educational Science. The connection to school practice remains particularly important to me to this day and shapes both my academic interests and my commitment at the intersection of academia and schools. As part of the doctoral student representative team, I would especially like to promote interdisciplinary exchange among doctoral candidates.
It is important to me to create spaces for networking, mutual support, and in-depth exchange. This includes both digital and in-person formats, such as joint discussion groups on PhD-related topics with guest speakers or low-threshold formats where experiences and helpful tips can be shared. Furthermore, I would like to give visibility to the perspectives and wishes of (TüSE) doctoral candidates.
I look forward to engaging in conversation with other doctoral candidates, bringing shared concerns to light, and helping to shape spaces where exchange, support, and networking become the norm.

Sinika Lott

My name is Sinika Lott, and starting in September, I am a doctoral candidate at the Tübingen Center of Digital Education. My research focuses on adaptivity with and through AI. While I am still at the beginning of my research, I look forward to delving deeper into this topic and sharing what I discover along the way with you.
Before starting my doctoral studies, I completed my degree in teacher education (subjects: English and German) at the University of Tübingen and worked as a student assistant at the TüCeDE, where I supported other doctoral candidates and professors in their university teaching. Thus, the development and support of high-quality university teaching is important to me.
As someone who is just at the beginning of the doctoral journey, I am particularly aware of how valuable supportive structures, exchange, and a sense of community can be. As a doctoral representative, I would therefore like to contribute to creating an open and approachable environment where doctoral candidates can easily connect, share experiences, and support one another through low-threshold, informal meetups such as joint coffee breaks and casual gatherings that make it easy to connect without pressure. I want to foster an environment in which achievements are celebrated and challenges can be discussed openly. At the same time, I am very much looking forward to representing the shared interests, concerns, and needs of doctoral candidates.
