New professorship at the Department of Computer Science

A warm welcome to Prof. Dr. Gerard Pons-Moll, who as of March 1st 2021 holds the new chair for "Continuous Learning of Multimodal Data Streams".

The W3 professorship of Prof. Pons-Moll could be newly established with funds from the Carl Zeiss Foundation.

One of Prof. Pons-Moll's research topics is the realistic modeling of human protagonists in virtual worlds, both in terms of their appearance and behavior. The human protagonists should, for example, be able to interact autonomously with the virtual world, to continuously interpret the experiences made there and to adapt their behavior accordingly.

Prof. Pons-Moll was previously a research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science in Saarbrücken. His numerous awards include an Emmy Noether Grant (2018), a Google Faculty Research Award (2019), a Facebook Reality Labs Faculty Award (2018), and the German Pattern Recognition Award (2019), which is given annually to an outstanding scientist in the field of computer vision and machine learning.
