Information on starting your studies

Have you enrolled for one of our degree programs in the summer semester 2025? Welcome to our Department of Computer Science!

Below you can find important information on starting your studies here in Tübingen and on important events (last update: March 26, 2025):

1. Information e-mail within the next few weeks (after your enrollment)

You will receive an information e-mail within the next few weeks (after your enrollment) with further information on the start of your studies.

2. For first-year Bachelor students:

  • Before the start of lectures (from Tuesday, April 1st, to Thursday, April 10th) there will be a Mathematics Preparatory Course. We strongly advise all first-year students to visit this preparatory course, as it will allow you to brush up your math skills and prepare you well for the math content you will learn in your first semester. Registration is possible until March 28th, 2025. All further information (incl. registration form) can be found here.
  • In addition, there are specific introductory events for each subject in which you will receive important information on the organization of your studies and the formal framework conditions. We strongly recommend that you attend the introductory course for your subject so that you have a good start to your studies.The concret dates for the subject-specific introductory events  (as of: March, 26th) are:
    • B.Sc. Computer Science: Friday, 11.04., 1:45 p.m. in the lecture hall S320 (Department of Geosciences, Hölderlinstr. 12)
    • B.Sc. Bioinformatics: Friday, 11.04., 2 p.m. in the seminar room S227 (Department of Geosciences, Hölderlinstr. 12)

3. For first-year Master students:

  • For first-year Master students in Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics who have a Bachelor's degree in the field of life sciences and will study their Master's program according to variant B, a preliminary course “Computer Science for Life Scientists” will be offered in the period from 31.03. to 04.04.25. Registration is possible until 17.03. All further information and the registration form can be found here.
  • On Thursday, April 10th, from 2:30 p.m., our traditional “Mastercafé” will take place for all first-year students in the master's programs of our department (Location: Room A104, Department of Computer Science, Sand 1). During this Mastercafé, you will not only be able to exchange ideas with your fellow students over coffee/tea and sweets, but also talk directly with the lecturers and the persons responsible for your degree program and ask your questions.   • In addition, subject-specific information events will be offered for the following subjects:
    • Master Bioinformatics: Thursday, 03.04., 1 p.m. (Location: Room C215, Department of Computer Science, Sand 14)
    • Master (M.Sc.) Computer Science: Thursday, 10.04., 1 p.m. (Location: Room C118a, Department of Computer Science, Sand 14)
    • Master Medical Informatics: Thursday, 10.04., 1:45 p.m. (Location: Room C412, Department of Computer Science, Sand 14)

4. Term opening of the Department of Computer Science

On Friday, 11.04.2025, from 4 p.m. (c.t.), the term opening of the Department of Computer Science will take place in the Audimax (Neue Aula, Geschwister-Scholl-Platz) for all students of the department. As part of the term opening you will get an insight into current developments; there will also be a brief presentation of various courses offered in the elective area.

5. Offers from Student Councils Computer Science (FSI) and Cognitive Science (FSK)

The student councils Computer Science (FSI) and Cognitive Science (FSK) organize an informal social program with lots of activities to help you get to know your fellow students, students from higher semesters and the city of Tübingen. 6. Central, interdisciplinary information on your start of studies

In addition, the university also offers central, interdisciplinary information on the start of studies around the beginning of the lecture period (e.g. introductions to the student administration portal “alma” and information events on the topic of “Studying with disabilities”).
