• Before the start of lectures (from Wednesday, October 1st, to Thursday, October 9th) there will be a Mathematics Preparatory Course. We strongly advise all first-year students to visit this preparatory course, as it will allow you to brush up your math skills and prepare you well for the math content you will learn in your first semester. • In addition, there are specific introductory events for each subject in which you will receive important information on the organization of your studies and the formal framework conditions. • For first-year Master students in Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics who have a Bachelor's degree in the field of life sciences and will study their Master's program according to variant B, a pre-course “Computer Science for Life Scientists” will be offered from October 6th, 2025, to October 10th, 2025. • On Thursday, October 9th, from 2:30 p.m., our traditional “Mastercafé” will take place for all first-year students in the master's programs of our department (Location: Room A301 & A302, Department of Computer Science, Sand 1). During the Mastercafé, you will not only be able to exchange with other students over coffee/tea and sweets, but also with lecturers and the persons responsible for your degree program and ask your questions. On Friday, October 10th, 2025, starting at 4:15 p.m., the term opening of the Department of Computer Science will take place in the ground floor of the new MVL1 building (Maria-von-Lindenstraße 1) for all students of the department. As part of the term opening you will learn about new developments in the department, and there will also be brief presentations of various courses that are offered in the elective areas.

The student councils Computer Science (FSI) and Cognitive Science (FSK) organize an informal social program with lots of activities to help you get to know your fellow students, students from higher semesters and the city of Tübingen. In addition, the university also offers central, interdisciplinary information on the start of studies around the beginning of the lecture period (e.g. introductions to the student administration portal “alma” and information events on the topic of “Studying with disabilities”).
