The Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science at Tübingen University
invites applications for the position of
Assistant Professor (W1) of Mathematical Methods of Quantum Theory
The position is due to commence on October 1, 2021.
The successful candidate should have an excellent research track record in mathematical quantum theory. In particular, methodological connections to areas of mathematical analysis, such as spectral theory, the calculus of variations or probability theory, are desired. Willingness to acquire competitive third-party funding and to participate in joint third-party funded projects both within the Department of Mathematics and in interdisciplinary or cross-location alliances is expected. The position comes with responsibilities in teaching, specifically pertaining to the university’s master's program in mathematical physics and to undergraduate mathematical education, as well as moderate responsibilities in academic self-administration such as committee service.
The position is initially limited to four years, with the possibility of extension by a further two years after a positive interim evaluation. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter. In the course of the contract, the W1 professor is expected to attain the research and teaching achievements that will qualify him or her for an appointment as a tenured professor at any university or equivalent institution (Habilitation).
Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field, recognizable potential for internationally acclaimed publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, and teaching experience.
