I will first briefly introduce the gravitational-wave background and the detection methods with terrestrial interferometers.
I will then highlight the implications for compact binary coalescences, beyond the standard model particle physics and early universe cosmological models. Finally, I will discuss how one can use the gravitational-wave background to infer the large-scale-structure of the Universe and the origin of dark matter.
