Marcel Vondermaßen earned his doctorate in the interdisciplinary field of sociology, philosophy and political science with a thesis entitled ‘Recognition – A New Guiding Concept for Politics’. In 2015, he was one of the award winners of the Research Institute for Philosophy in Hanover. From 2016 to 2022, he was a research assistant at the IZEW. Since 2022, he has held the position of deputy managing director and scientific coordinator of the centre. Also since 2022, he has been secretary of the "Verein zur Förderung der Ethik in den Wissenschaften e.V." In 2020, he was one of the co-founders of the ethics blog ‘Bedenkzeiten’ (Breathing Time), and since 2022 he has been a member of its review board. Since 2025, he has been a member of the Ethics Commission of the WISO Faculty.
