Andreas Baur at the Nuremberg Technology Dialogue
The challenge of hackers, nerds and shady characters: security in cyberspace. Andreas Baur spoke on this topic at the Nuremberg Technology Dialogue of IG Metall and VDI.
One thing is clear: There is no such thing as absolute security in cyberspace – but not to worry about security is also not a solution. In the meantime, there is a broad legal, technical and also political scope of possibilities; this became clear once again on 21 June 2018 at the Nuremberg Technology Dialogue at the Home Ministry. In their contributions, the three speakers covered a broad spectrum that offered the listeners many opportunities to hook in with their comments and critical questions.
Following lectures hold by Daniel Kleffel from the Bavarian State Office for Information Security and Thomas Janovsky, Head of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bamberg, Andreas Baur from the International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) was the last speaker of the evening and began with the question: What is security and who defines it? Subsequently, he highlighted the aspect of security from a political and ethical points of view and pointed out that ‘more security’ can also lead to ‘less freedom, equality and privacy’ and that security ultimately needs a discussion of values that society must face.
