Interdisciplinary Workshop on "Aligning AI with Society”

September 25-26, 2025 (UNC-Chapel Hill)

The IZEW, in collaboration with the Computer Science Department of UNC-Chapel Hill, is organizing an interdisciplinary and transatlantic workshop from September 25-26, 2025, on the topic of Aligning AI with Society on site at the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.

The hybrid workshop brings together researchers from both UNC-Chapel Hill and University of Tübingen across the fields of computer science and humanities to discuss interdisciplinary perspectives and approaches regarding the topic of aligning AI with society.

By providing a forum for important questions about the challenges and opportunities of AI systems in context of their sociotechnical impact with researchers in an interdisciplinary and international environment, we are looking forward to foster conversation across the domains on each other’s research and languages.

We are especially looking forward to hearing from our three keynote speakers who will offer insights into the topic from their perspectives:
Dr. Simon David Hirsbrunner, IZEW, University of Tübingen
Dr. Neil S. Gaikwad, UNC-Chapel Hill
Dr. Katia Schwerzmann, Ruhr University Bochum
