Agricultural turnaround and recognition

In view of the Europe-wide farmers' protests, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared in January 2024 that farmers were right to demand recognition for providing people with food. In response to the demonstrations, not only did the German government withdraw its planned cuts to subsidies for agricultural diesel, but the EU Parliament also withdrew the planned environmental requirements of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). But can maintaining the status quo be considered a question of recognition? I think not: No, on the contrary. Anyone who recognizes the importance of agriculture for the well-being of us all must push for changes to current practice. This blog post will focus on the role that recognition plays in and for the agricultural transition.
