Brilliant Woman in AI

Jacqueline Bellon in the top 100 list 2025

IZEW researcher Jacqueline Bellon was included in the list of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics. The Women in AI Ethics™ (WAIE) is a global initiative with a mission to increase recognition, representation, and empowerment of women in AI Ethics. It started in 2018 and is now published annually to recognize rising stars as well as pioneers in this space. To increase representation of women at AI/tech conferences and companies, they have also launched an open online directory of Women in AI Ethics to make it easier for conference organizers and recruiters to find suited speakers and researchers.

Jacqueline’s background is in philosophy of technology, epistemology, philosophy of science, and theories on culture and the social. Her research deals with conceptualisations of technology evolution, culture and technology as mediators of human-world contact as well as ethical aspects of tech representation, development, and use. She is finishing her dissertation on French philosopher Gilbert Simondon at the University of Darmstadt in which she gives an introduction into his "On the mode of existence of technical objects" and compares the use of his individuation theory from "Individuation in Light of Notions of Form and Information" in it with the use of it in "Imagination and Invention". A special interest of hers are computer vision and classification models as well as generative AI text and image models. She is a strong advocate of AI literacy and uses a variety of formats to spread it. At the IZEW she works on a project on epistemic and ethical question of AI tools in higher education.
