Satire or disinformation using AI-generated images?

On the platform X, the number of (allegedly) satirical accounts is growing, posting AI-generated images of well-known politicians. Whether Karl Lauterbach, Robert Habeck, Annalena Baerbock or Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the accounts parody German top politicians – and are often close to the AfD.

(How) can you distinguish between satirical and non-satirical posts? What role do AI and deepfakes play here? What is still covered by freedom of expression and what is not? What role will the possible labelling of AI-generated content play under the new European AI regulation, the AI Act?
