Michèle Finck and the CZS Institute for AI and Law Join the AI Act's Governance Bodies

Two milestones for AI governance at Tübingen: Cluster member Michèle Finck has been appointed to the AI Act's Scientific Panel as an independent expert, while the CZS Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Law is named to the AI Act Advisory Forum, where it will be represented by Cluster member Kristof Meding. This brings the research on AI regulation and governance happening in Tübingen directly into its implementation and enforcement.

Michèle Finck appointed to the Scientific Panel under the AI Act

We are delighted to share that Michèle Finck has been appointed as an independent expert to the Scientific Panel under the AI Act. The Panel supports the AI Office and national authorities in implementing and enforcing the Act, with a particular focus on general-purpose AI models and systems including advising on when such models present systemic risk and helping establish model classification and evaluation methodologies. A systemic risk finding can ultimately form the basis for enforcement measures, including mitigation measures but also the restriction, withdrawal or prohibition of a foundation model in the EU.

After years spent researching AI regulation and the AI Act specifically, this marks a shift from studying these rules to helping put them into practice. This work that will shape how frontier models are governed.

CZS Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Law joins the AI Act Advisory Forum

Just over two years after beginning operations, the CZS Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Law has been selected as a member of the AI Act Advisory Forum, the general advisory body supporting the European Commission and the AI Board in implementing and enforcing the AI Act. Kristof Meding will represent the Institute in the Forum.
