The University of Tübingen has a broad international presence and therefore participates in foreign trade, which is subject to export control regulations. The university, researchers, and administration are subject to export control regulations in numerous fields of activity. These include, in particular: international research collaborations, business trips, exports of scientific equipment, materials, and software, the development of new technologies, knowledge and data transfers, publications, collaboration with international researchers, and the hiring of personnel.
Under certain circumstances, all of these activities may be subject to approval or even prohibited. Export control is not intended to restrict foreign trade or the freedom of science and research. Rather, the regulations are designed to prevent the misuse of sensitive research goods and know-how, which could even endanger national security. Critical individual cases must therefore be identified in order to avoid violating applicable law.
