2017 APA Distinguished Scientific Award

Jacquelynne Eccles honored

LEAD's Distinguished Interational Professor Jacquelynne S. Eccles (University of California, Irvine, USA) received the <link http: www.apa.org science about psa distinguished-awards.aspx external-link-new-window external link in new>Award for Distinguished Scientific Applications of Psychology, which is among the highest honors for scientific achievement by psychologists.

She received the award "for her seminal contributions to our understanding of how social contexts shape child and adolescent development. Jacquelynne S. Eccles’s concept of “stage–environment fit” has provided unique insights into how secondary schools and community programs can best promote adolescent motivation and positive youth development. Her refinement of expectancy-value theory has generated one of the most prominent lines of research in motivation, highlighting how families and schools influence achievement-related choices and behaviors from early childhood through young adulthood. She is one of the most highly cited developmental psychologists of her generation, her work has had a significant impact on programs and policies affecting children and round the world. Her passion and commitment to children, youth and her profession continue to be an inspiration."
