Hiring Process

AWARDING APPOINTMENT CETIFICATE

STEP 1

  • Offer of the professorship to the first-ranked candidate
  • Request of equipment wishes

  • Negotiations

STEP 3

  • Appointment proposal

Acceptance of appointment

In case of no more candidates: New job advertisement or end of process

Decline of appointment

In case of decline: Offer to the next-ranked candidate

STEP 4

  • Notification of remaining applicants and return of application documents

STEP 5

  • Request of appointment documents

4 MONTHS MAX.

Awarding of the appointment certificate

Begin of employment as a professor


HR support
The final hiring contact will be prepared in the HR department (Division VI).  Unit 1 is specifically responsible for the management of civil servants. They are the point of contact for professors, professorial substitutes and visiting professors, and also advise and answer questions on all issues relating to contract details.

Swearing in
As a civil servant professor at a German university, you must swear allegiance to the free democratic basic order and Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany as part of your official oath of office. In this respect, it is relevant to know that criminal offenses committed thereafter can have consequences not only under civil law, but also under personnel law.
