Staff
The German university is still mostly based on the “chair principle” (Lehrstuhlprinzip), which means that professors – whether in the natural sciences or the humanities – are considered to the be head of their own individual departments, sections, or teams. They are responsible for all the research and teaching within their section and for hiring the necessary personnel, as well as negotiating how many staff members they require to achieve their research and teaching objectives. The number of academic and non-academic staff allocated to a professor’s team is therefore part of the hiring negotiations.
Equipment & Budget
The scope of equipment and the budget available for books, office material and travel also depends on individual negotiation. The same applies to the office space, premises and infrastructure.
Relocation Allowance
Financial support toward your relocation to Tübingen depends on individual negotiation, but is usually limited to around EUR 6,000.
