Dr. Pérez-Fernández focuses on the Pleistocene-Holocene transition in the Upper Ebro Valley (northern Spain). A better understanding of this period has been our primary objective through geoarchaeolgical analysis of different archaeological sites. Knowing also the human-environment relationship is fundamental for a clearer understanding of past societies. In the same way, for both the interpretation of paleoecological and archaeological information, a detailed knowledge of the pedosedimentary and geomorphological context derived from geological studies is of great importance. Geoarchaeology therefore stands as an important discipline that contributes to the better knowledge of human impact on the landsape by studying ancient soils and deposits of occupation areas. The results of the stratigraphic, sedimentological, and geoarchaeological characterization carried out in this project are analyzed through different methods, including granulometries, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, loss on ignition (L.O.I), determination of carbon and nitrogen, and micromorphology.
