At highschool taking part in archeological field studies in Switzerland (Neolithikum, Middle Ages) 1969, 1970. Studied natural science at the University of Basel (Biozentrum) 1972-1977. Studied Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies and Pre- and Early History at the University of Zürich 1977-1982. Lizentiat (M.A.). Postgraduate Studies at Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Paris 1982. Postgraduate-Year at Oxford University 1983-4. Working in industrial company (project supervisor, part of management at a Software company). 1990-91 Universitity of Heidelberg, working on his Ph.D. thesis. 1992-1995 Assistant professor for classical Chineses at teh University of Edinburg (Chiang Ching-kuo Lecturer of Classical Chinese); Introduction (togehtehr with Dr. Bill Dolby) of the postgraduate degrees “M.Sc.”, responsible for “textual criticism”. Organisation of interdisciplinary courses with the Faculty of Divinity: “Chinese religions”. 1996 Ph.D. at the University of Heidelberg. Since 1996 scientific assistant (C1) at the University of Tübingen. 1998 Organisation of the international congress “Religion and Economy in East Asia” (financed by DFG), 2001 Organisation of the “Tübinger Buddhismus-Woche” (financed by the SOCRATES-Programm).
Research focus: Chinese religion, Chinese thoght tradition (Zhanguo till Tang), history of mentality, text critic, archeology of Eraly China.
Current Project: Untersuchung apotropäischer und exorzistischer Praktiken in den chinesischen Religionen von Zhanguo bis Jin (480 v.u.Z.-316 u.Z.) und ihr Weiterleben im frühen “religiösen” Daoismus. Vorbereitung der “Tübingen Sinological Concordance Series”.
