International Center for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW)

IZEW Ethics-Tools Lab

Welcome to the IZEW Ethics Tools Lab! Here you find ethics tools that IZEW staff have (co-)developed to communicate ethics in science, education, innovation processes and society.

What is an ethics tool? We understand ethics tools to be didactic arrangements that invite and enable people to participate in and initiate ethically sound discourses about their field of practice. They are tools that help people to perceive and describe, analyse and evaluate ethical aspects of a practical context and, if possible, to incorporate them into decisions and actions. Ethics tools can be designed in very different ways in terms of methodology and media. The spectrum ranges from simple cross tables and card games to chatbots.

Where and how can I use the tools? For each ethics tool, the detailed view describes for what and with whom the tool can be used, what expertise and materials are required, how much time is needed to use the tool, where the tool can be found, and who to contact if you have questions or feedback about the tool.
